February 29, 2008

This is an old cotton mill in Greensboro, NC. It closed down years and years ago. Then, in the late 70's or so it was turned into an outlet mall and operated for several years until closing down, after a fire, I believe. Now it is being taken down, a little piece of local history gone.

Cooper always waits for my wife to get home and then goes crazy welcoming her home. We talked about trying this shot for a while and decided to do it tonight. I think it's a fun shot.

Photo #1: It's been cloudy and rainy here for days, except very brief times when you can see the sky and sun. I've been having to come up with other ideas for the photo a day project. I think this week is seashell week :) This one is with a Nikkor 60mm 2.8 micro lens and daylight balance florescent.

Photo #2: Fun with the Clone Stamp tool :)

February 23, 2008 Vintage Geese

Well, I missed a day on my Photo a Day project. Actually I took this photo yesterday, then got sick last night and didn't get to process and post it, so I only halfway failed in my intent for the year....oh well, that's the way it goes. Since I'm not feeling great today, I messed with this one a lot, trying out some downloaded actions in PS CS3. i like the way it came out.

February 22, 2008

This was shot with Alien Bees B800, processed in Lightroom to brighten his face, and in photoshop cs3 to convert to B&W, and paint the background black. I'm sure I could have done a better job on it :)

February 21, 2008

Didn't have a lot of time for photography today, had to work late....got home and set up and Alien Bees B800 with white umbrella and took some shots of my dog, Cooper. I really liked the way this one came out. One of the cats, Tabitha, came over and laid down near us, so I took a couple of quick shots of her too. This one looked ok Sepia-toned.

Oak Hollow Lake, by the Dam. Had to do more post than I normally like to do, including a warming filter, and some dodging and burning, but didn't have time for anything else today, but I do like the textures in this shot.

Image #1 My Dog Cooper in the leaf pile.

Image #2 Tall Grass against Green Fence. I tried this with the background blurred but it just looked better all in focus.

Image #3 One of my little Sparrows (I think) on the back fence.

Image #4 Downy Woodpecker

Yes, Virginia, it does snow on NC. Not much, or often, but it does. We had a 2 hour school delay this morning so I went out and shot snow :). 1st image is my favorite fence, 2nd just a dogwood branch, and 3rd well....a bird :)

February 12, 2008

I've been wanting to do something a bit different from what I have been doing so far. Today I think I got closer to what I'm picturing in my head.

I'm going to try to do some different things for the next several days. Today, nothing worked out, but this shot came out ok.

Went to the mountains today to take my son sledding. We just don't seem to ever get snow here anymore. Had a great time....drove up to look at the slopes and caught these guys.

Will did great sledding, but I just love this wipeout shot.

This girl kept sledding right at me, but always with a smile.

Had a great day today. Spent it with my son, Will. We went to the lake and explored the area around a beaver pond....I showed him their dam and trees they'd felled and we even found their house.

First shot is HDR of part of their pond.

Second is a couple of Canada Geese getting air.

Third....that's Will :)

February 8, 2008

My son and I met Brionna today. I took a couple of shots of her with Will but they were just grab shots and she came out sharp but he didn't, so I had to crop him. I think these two came out pretty well for quick shots inside with natural light from the window at left, and the second one just looked better in B&W. Thanks, Brionna for letting me post your pic :)

A couple of sunset shots from Oak Hollow Lake near my house. Both are HDR, but I thought I'd try the one in B&W.

February 3, 2008

Had a great day shooting today.

Image number 1 and 2 are HDR Sunrise shots from Oak Hollow Lake. 7 images 1 stop apart combined in Photoshop CS3. The blue in number 2 came out a bit over saturated, but oh well, tomorrow is another day.

Image number 3 is a Great Blue Heron and I loved the way its reflection and the trees sort of look alike.

Image number 4 is a Bald Eagle that flew over once and I missed him, then he flew back past and I took several grab shots....didn't think I really got him sharp but he came out not bad.

Sunrise shot from this morning. 7 images 1 stop apart combine using HDR in Photoshop CS3. The shadows are a bit darker near the sun than I planned but live and learn :)

Another busy day at work. All I was able to do was snap a few shots at a clients before I left. I've always liked their lobby so here's part of it :)
